Song Kwae District
Tham Sakern National Park

is situated in an approximate area of 155,200 rai, covering the areas of Tha Wang Pha, Chiang Klang, Thung Chang, Song Kwae districts, Nan Province and Chiang Kham, Pong districts, Pha Yao Province. Tham Sakoen National Park has many beautiful sightseeing spots. The geographical features of the National Park consist of high mountains, extending northwards and southwards. The altitude of the National Park is approximately 300-1,752 metres above the sea level. Doi-Ji is the highest mountaintop (1,752 metres above the sea level). The National Park is the source of 3 basins including Upper Yom River Basin, Upper Yao River Basin, and Lao Basin, which are the sources of main rivers of the country, i.e., Yom River and Nan River, being used for agricultural activities of villagers on both sides of the rivers. Interesting Attractions in the National Park are as follows:
Huay-Had Waterfall or Ban yod Waterfall

is a medium-sized 3- step waterfall with the flowing water throughout the year, situ- ated at Yod sub-district of Song Kwae District, Nan Province.


Tham Luang Sakern

situated in Yod sub-district of Song kwae district, Nan Province, is a 600 metres-deep, mediumsized cave with beautiful stalagmites and stalactites and being inhabited by a large number of bats.


How to get there : From Nan drive on Highway No. 1080 to the north for about 42 kilometres to Tha Wang Pha district where turn left onto Highway No. 1148 and continue another 33 kilometres to Song Kwae district. Then at the intersection a few kilometres after the town turn left to keep on the same road number 1148. About 30 kilometres more driving will take you to Ban Sakern village. Look for a right turn road to the park headquarters, which is about 6 km.
