Hok Peng Wai Phra That Chae Haeng
The festival is on
the full moon day around the end of February to early March.
Locally-made rockets are lit as a rite to pay respect to the Lord
Buddha. |

Song Nam Phrachao Thongthip Ceremony
Phrachao Thongthip is a bronze Buddha statue in Mara Vichaya posture (Buddha conquered the demon) which is respected by Nanûs people. The statue is enshrined in Suan Tan Temple in which people will celebrate every year dur- ing April 12-15 (Songkran Festival), by inviting the copied of the Buddha im- age onto the procession cart and pour water onto the image wishing luck for the coming year. In the temple, there will be exorcise ceremony, city's fortune prolongation ceremony, Miss Songkran contest, and many traditional entertainments. |

Namaskarn Phra That Khao Noi
This festival is organized on the full moon day around May. Locally made rockets are lit as a rite to pay respect to the Lord Buddha. |

Tan Kuay Salak
This age-old festival dates back to the Buddha.s life tim. The Northerners deem this festival as their most significant and unique celebration. The monks are invited to take a ballot, according to which they receive offerings . |

Nan Boat Racing
Boat racing is held yearly during the high tide season in early November the opening day of the race corresponds with the yearly Tan Kuay Salak Festival at Chang Kham Temple, which is held before other temples. Boat race is also held during the Tan Kuay Salak Festival in Wiang Sa. Racing boats in Nan are noted for its elegant upper and rear parts, which resemble the head of Naga, a legendary serpant king and tail respectively. Nan people belive that their ances- tors, Chao Khum Nun and Chao Khun Fong, were born out of the serperity. The boat shape is thus elaborately caved to pay respect to the serpent king, which is both the spirit of water and Nan's ancestor |

Golden Orange and Red Cross Festival
The festival has been ar- ranged every year in the month of December, which in some years, it would be cooperated with Kong Dee Muaeng Nan festival. Golden or- ange is a well-known agricultural product of Nan. It is the same strain as tangerine orange but has more aroma and sweet flavor with alluring gold color. Activities in the festival are vari- ous such as golden-orange parade decoration contest, trade fair, handicrafts selling from many ampurs, and Hon-Hongsa city, Laos, traditional shows and entertainments. |

Kwang (Hercules Beetle Fighting)
The scarab beetle Xylotrupes Gideon (L) is known as ..Kwang.. in local vernacular. There are other species of scarabs which are also trained and used in fighting. Beetles with 2, 3 and 5 horns are subject to culture and training. Beetle fighting tradition started with the Lanna people in the north,
hundreds of years ago when they observed male beetles fighting each other for supermacy during the mating and breeding season (August - October). |
